I promised my father-in-law that I would learn Thai; and that next time I visit I would speak Thai with him. That was April 2011. It is now February 2012 and I have made little progress. I'm finally knuckling down and back to studying. After my last visit to Thailand last month, I promised my father-in-law that next time I visit him in Thailand I will speak Thai with him. So, something to aim for.

I was googling for a Thai keyboard when I found Frontype. I can well recommend this nifty piece of software. Within 5 minutes of me downloading the trial version, I logged on and bought the product. Not only did I find a usable Thai keyboard for my laptop (with English keyboard) but a touch-typing tutor to boot!

A year of absence and I can still remember most of what I learnt. I can well recommend Pimsleur Thai. I'm on disc 3 again. We'll see how far I get this time.

No progress so far. As reported on my other blog, I am studying a new programming language - VB.NET. With two boys to look after whilst Jeep is out at work, leaves me little time for very much else. I haven't given up though and I will persevere.

I found a fantastic ebook on the Internet yesterday - http://www.learnthaionline.com/ - It is called 'Learn To Read Thai In A Day'. Hard to believe!With just half an hour reading I understood a heck of a lot about the Thai alphabet. It has the clearest explanations for the Thai script I have seen to date. It gives a clear starting point and takes you through, quite cleverly, consonants and vowels

I have just completed my revision of lessons 1 & 2 and I feel I am reaching the 80%+ level required to proceed on to lesson 3. So tomorrow I will re-visit lesson 3. I cannot pretend that it is easy or that my pronunciation is correct. At this stage I am looking for comprehension and building a vocabulary. I am sure my wife will correct my pronunciation - frequently!I must find an easy way for me

A few months ago I reached lesson 4 of 10 from the Pimsleur learn Thai 5 CD set. I can still remember several phrases and words. I will review those first 4 lessons and this time continue to the end of lesson 10. I hope going public with this blog I will succeed.
